LAW PRACTICE
Robert Hornick practiced law with two large, multinational law firms from 1973 until his retirement in 2006, concentrating on international arbitration, commercial transactions, and Indonesia. He acted as counsel during the 1980s and early 1990s for the foreign investor in the four Amco arbitrations against the Government of Indonesia and defended the Government of Sri Lanka in the first World Bank (ICSID) arbitration claim ever brought under a bilateral investment treaty. His commercial clients included the foreign branch offices of several large U.S. and European banks, an international telecommunications company, a European engineering and construction company, and a U.S. pharmaceutical company as well as various Indonesian and other Southeast Asian enterprises. He was a consultant on Indonesian law and law reform to U.S. and international development agencies including U.S. A.I.D., Harvard Institute for International Development, U.N.D.P., and The World Bank, and testified before courts and arbitral tribunals in Asia, Europe, and North America as an expert on Indonesian law. Since retiring from law practice, Mr. Hornick has served as an arbitrator in several international arbitrations and as Chair of the Committee to Support Chinese Lawyers. He is also Part-time Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where he teaches courses on international commercial arbitration and international investment arbitration.
